If you are running Wordpress 2.7 on your web site or blog and want to add or change your Wordpress Theme you will find that it is very easy to do.
In Wordpress 2.7 the method is basically the same as previous versions, but you need to know how to do this from within the new administrator’s Dashboard, which has been completely redesigned for 2.7.
Note that not all Wordpress themes are compatible, so check with the developer that the the theme you want to use is ok.
If you are still looking for a theme or want to see more options you can go to wordpress.org and see their list of themes that you can use with 2.7:
Wordpress 2.7 Compatible Themes
Installing a Wordpress Theme is Easy!
After finding the new Wordpress Theme that you want to use, currently you still have to download the zipped folder containing the theme to your personal computer, unzip the download to create the theme folder and then upload the theme folder using FTP to the wp-content/themes folder at your website.
NOTE: If you do not know how to do this then read the first part of the following article that explains how to do this… How to Install A Wordpress Theme …and then come back here to complete the installation for your website or blog.
How To Activate Your New Wordpress 2.7 Theme
Actually installing your new theme is just as easy in 2.7 as in previous versions, but instead of using the Presentation, or more recently the Design Tab, to install a them you need to use the new Menu side bar on the left-hand side of the new Wordpress 2.7 administrator’s Dashboard.

So, first of all you will have to login to the Wordpress admin area of you site from your web browser, using the yourdomain.com/wp-admin type of URL to get there.
Just look down the Menu bar until you see the option APPEARANCE and click on the right of it to reveal a small dropdown list.
On the list you will see 3 options:
- Themes
- Widgets
- Editor
You need to click on Themes to view the themes that are available for you to install on your site or blog.
These will be all the themes that you have copied into the wp-content/themes folder at your website using FTP.
…
As soon as you click on themes the Manage Themes page is displayed where you can see thumbnail images of all the themes available to you, which should include the new theme you have just loaded with ftp.

Just click on the theme thumbnail or the theme name below the thumbnail to start the theme activation process.
When you do this the theme will be displayed in a large pop-up window and you can activate it by clicking on the ACTIVATE “theme“ link in the top right-hand corner of the pop-up.

If you decide not to activate the theme you select at this stage you can abandon the activation by clicking on the small X in the top right-hand corner of the pop-up to close it.
On activation your new theme becomes the current theme as displayed in the Manage Themes page.

Now just look at your website or blog in your browser, remembering to refresh your browser if you were already at your site, and you will see that the new theme has been installed.
Very, very easy!

Hi Dave,
I’ve done everything as you’ve detailed but nothing happens, same site.
I use SlimCat as my host and as far as I can tell have uploaded a compatable
theme. Is there something specifically that I should be looking for?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Greg
Hey Greg,
I am going to need more information on exactly what you have done so far before I can start to understand your problem. Adding a new theme to Wordpress is a fairly straightforward process and it is unusual for it not to work. Let me know…
Dave.
The new dashboard page threw me at first, but it’s not really much different except for layout. I like it now. After updating one of my WP blogs I am going to do the rest. Thanks for the post.
