How To Add Videos To WordPress And Host Them With VideoPress

What is VideoPress?

Just a quick heads up about VideoPress and how you can use their service to host your own videos, including high definition HD versions, and then add or embed them into your Wordpress posts and pages. This works for Self-Hosted Wordpress too!

VideoPress

The Videopress video hosting is not free and you have to pay for it via Paypal. It costs $60 a year for access to their service, but if your want to make your own high definition videos and show them on your own Wordpress site this is a great way to go.

Hosting your own videos on your own self-hosted Wordpress at a web hosts like Hostgator is going to give you a lot of problems, especially if your site gets popular and/or you have a lot of videos on your site. The bandwidth usage will be high and your site could be shut down, which can be a real pain to get sorted! Using VideoPress means there is no bandwidth limit!

You will need an account and a blog at Wordpress.com. Just an account is no good, because the option to buy the upgrade need for Videopress will not be display unless you have a bog. But you don’t have to post anything to the blog, just sign up for one (quick and easy) and you will be good to go!

Except for just one thing that is – you will also need to download the VideoPress plugin to allow you to embed the videos into your posts or pages.

How To Buy A VideoPress Subscription

Once you have your Wordpress.com account and a blog just log into you account and go to the dashboard. Look for the UPGRADE option at the bottom of menu options list (on the left) and click on Upgrades to see the drop down list of sub-options. Then just click on Upgrades in the sub-options to display the page below:

You will also need to install and activate the VideoPress Plugin for Wordpress on your self-hosted site before you can start embedding your videos from Videopress.

Wordpress have a great tutorial that describes in detail how to use videos and the VideoPress service and you can find that here:
