If you are serious about finding the best method for protecting the data in your blog then you should consider the Online Backup for WordPress Plugin, which has just been released by Backup Technology.
This backup plugin for Wordpress is different than other plugins that have previoulsy been release to perform this function in that it has the facility to store your backup file, in encrypted format for better protection, on a remote server at Backup Technology.
This is off-site backup at it’s best as it is all about an online backup facility that you control from your Wordpress admin dashboard.
You can download the plugin for free and currently when you create an account with Backup Technology they will provide 50 MB of free space on their secure servers for your backup files and when your account runs out of space then the older backups will get deleted to make space for the newer backups.

At present the plugin only backs up the Wordpress MySql database, but their “developers are currently working on adding the backup of plugins and themes”, but there is no date yet on the release of this version. Hopefully they will also add the capability to backup the upload area of Wordpress sites, where all the media uploads, such as your images, are stored.
Anyway the whole process of installing the plugin and setting it up is easy and straightforward and remember that you have to create your at account at Backup Technology in order to store your backup files on their servers:
The plugin allows you schedule the backups on a time period you select and you can also email the backups to yourself and perform a one-off manual backup and download it to your personal computer any time you want.
The interface to the plugin settings (under TOOLS) is simple and easy to use and you will have to add your Backup Technology account details under Change Settings before you can backup your database to their servers or vault as they call it.
This has the potential for being a good service when it gets to the stage where it can backup all the different components of your Wordpress website that require backup and then it will be great addition to the Wordpress community. Nice job so far!

This plugin for database backups will create a backup of your core WordPress tables as well as any tables in the database you select that are in the same database. You can also email the backup files to yourself or any other email address you set up.

This backup plugin will perform regular backups of your Wordpress upload folder (media and images etc) as well as your current selected Wordpress theme and all your plugin folders. The resulting backup files are also available for download and can be emailed to a any email address you specify.
