A new version of Wordpress was recently released to make your blog or website as secure as possible before the next major version release of Wordpress 2.9.
This recent security release number 2.8.5 is purely to make Wordpress more secure than it was before. All the new features for Wordpress that are currently under development will come with 2.9.
And of course it is recommended that you upgrade to 2.8.5 as soon as possible to ensure that you Wordpress blogs and sites are not susceptible to any of the recent hacks and attacks that some sites have been experiencing in the last few weeks. Upgrading now will give your site the best protection against hackers.
With the release came a recommendation from the guys at wordpress.org:
“If you think that your site might have been hit by one of the recent hacker exploits and you want to make really sure that you have successfully cleared out all traces of any exploit then we recommend that you take a look at the WordPress Exploit Scanner“
This plugin searches all the files existing at your site as well as all your posts and comments in your site’s MySQL database tables for anything that looks at all suspicious. It will also carefully examine your list of activated plugins for filenames that are not normal. This is a plugin worth installing and running just to see if your site has been attacked in some way.
Wordpress security is an important issue that we should all pay attention too if we want to keep our sites up and running without interruption or catastrophic loss!
So I guess we should all try and pay more attentiaon to new releases of Wordpress as the hackers out there will always find new ways to try and hack into your site.
